The Tournament of Roses® Rose Parade in Pasadena, California is America’s New Year Celebration. As a child, I remember my dad bundling us up in warm clothes and blankets and camping on Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s Eve to be able to get a front row seat to watch the Rose Bowl Parade. Even though it was so cold, it was fun seeing all of the people bring in the new year at midnight and then wait for the parade to begin.
This year, the Tournament of Roses® Rose Parade presented by Honda will start at 8:00 AM PST on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2019, in Pasadena, California.
The 2019 Grand Marshal will be singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, Chaka Khan. Chaka will ride in the 130th Rose Parade®, join in the pre-game celebration of the 105th Rose Bowl Game®, and as an added bonus, she will perform in the parade’s Opening Spectacular.
Parade Theme: This year, the Rose Bowl Parade theme is ‘The Melody of Life’. All of the participants will use this theme as inspiration in the design of their floats.
Parade Route: The 5 1/2-mile Rose Parade route begins at the corner of Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena. The parade travels north on Orange Grove at a leisurely 2 1/2-mile per hour pace and then turns east onto Colorado Boulevard, where the majority of the parade viewing takes place. Near the end of the route, the parade turns north onto Sierra Madre Boulevard and concludes at Villa Street.
